We are happy to announce the "School on Algorithm Engineering",
sponsored by ALCOM-FT and
co-organized by Giuseppe F. Italiano
(University of Rome "Tor Vergata") and by Giovanni
Rinaldi (IASI-CNR). Algorithm engineering is concerned with the
design, theoretical and experimental analysis, engineering and tuning
of algorithms, and is gaining increasing interest in the algorithmic
community. This emerging discipline addresses issues of realistic
algorithm performance by carefully combining traditional theoretical
methods together with thorough experimental investigations. The
School is devoted to PhD students and researchers interested in
these topics, and will take place in Rome at IASI-CNR,
Viale Manzoni 30, on September 10-12, 2001. IASI-CNR is located in
the central area of Rome.
The format of the School will be the following: there will be lectures
delivered by the invited speakers, and there will be also time for
talks and demos, organized in an informal and cozy atmosphere, in
order to leave plenty of opportunities for discussions and
interactions among participants.
Michael Jünger, Universität zu Köln:
``Branch and Cut Algorithms for Combinatorial Optimization''Kurt Mehlhorn, Max Planck Institut für Informatik, Saarbrücken
``Software Libraries for Efficient Algorithms''Bernard Moret, University of New Mexico
`Engineering Algorithms for Speed: Principles, Challenges, and Case Studies''
Participants who want to present their reseach related to the School's
topic or wish to give a demo are invited to submit a 2 page abstract
in Postscript or PDF format to
italiano@info.uniroma2.it
by July
31, 2001.
Such talks will be scheduled on the fly either monday afternoon or
tuesday afternoon.
Please stay tuned as more information on the School will be available soon. You can send me email in case you have any questions.
